Making medicines information clearer

You don’t have to be academic or know anything about medicines to take part.
All medicines come with a Package Information Leaflet or PIL for short. These are recognised as being important for the safe and effective use of the medicine. It’s now law to ‘user test’ these leaflets with potential patients before a medicine is licensed.
What does it involve?
During the interview, we’ll ask you to use the leaflet to answer some questions about the medicine. We may ask you to carry out some of the instructions in the leaflet to see if they’re easy to follow. You don’t need to know anything about the medicine or the condition it is used to treat. It’s not a speed or memory test; you have the leaflet with you all the time to refer to and can take as long as you need.
We’ll also ask you what you think of the leaflet and how it could be improved. You may later see the medicine in a chemist or supermarket and see that the leaflet reflects some of the suggestions you made!
